State Farm® Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grants (Deadline: November 13)
Youth Service America is currently accepting applications for State Farm® Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grants to support service-learning projects that launch on MLK Day of Service, January 18, 2010, and culminate on Global Youth Service Day, April 23-25, 2010. School and community educators across the United States and Canada can apply for up to $1,000 in funding for youth-led projects. The extended deadline is midnight ET this Friday, November 13. Helping Young People Deal with their Parents’ Military Deployment
With the recent deployement of our local National Guard unit, many of you may know young people whose parent has been deployed for an extended period of time. Deborah Carlton from Floyd County Extension shares info from the Purdue University Extension Service that is helpful in helping young people deal with stress. The information on helping children cope with parents deployment to the military may be especially beneficial for those of you with loved ones in the service.

Entrepreneur Training Workshop
IUS, working with the New Albany Urban Enterprise Zone Association and the New Albany YMCA, will offer a six-week Entrepreneur Training Workshop for Youth/Adult Mentors. The workshop will be held at the YMCA in New Albany on Wednesdays, 5:30 – 7:30 pm June 24 – July 29. The program is for youth 14 – 19 years old; the cost per participant is $70. New Albany..Junior Achievement summer camps
JA BizTown week long camp sessions let your child, ages 9-12, have lots of fun while learning the economics of life. The students will run the JA BizTown as employees throughout the week while they learn concepts like; job applications, interviewing, producers, consumers, marketing, entrepreneurship, and personal banking.

Project Explore
For students going into 6th and 7th grade at Greater Clark County Schools in the 2009-10 school year. It is designed to provide exploratory activities that will develop cognitive potential and will integrate the talents, skills, and creativity of each individual participant. Summer Youth Camp for Military Families - Purdue University will host Operation Purple Camp, a free national summer camp program May 30 – June 6, 2009, for children between the ages of 10-15 with a parent in military service. Campers will participate in traditional activities such as swimming, archery and arts and crafts while also attending special sessions on stress management and building trust with family and friends. YMCA Summer Camps
The YMCA of Southern Indiana offers many different full day summer day camps for children ages 3-14. Kinder Camp (Floyd and Clark), Camp Charlestown, Camp Clark County, Camp Floyd County, Sports Camp, Camp Honor Bright, Camp Adventure (for children with special needs), and Teen Camp (Clark and Floyd). All camps operate from 6:30am-6pm with main camp activities running from 9am-4pm. All camps swim twice a week and go on a field trip once a week. Fees are $105 weekly with discounts for YMCA members and additional children. We also offer scholarships to families who qualify. Sign up for one week or the whole summer.We are offering five ½ day camps. These camps run from 10am-2pm and run $55 per week. June 8-12: You Can Be A Star (ages 8-13), June 15-19; Junior Lifeguard (ages 9-14), June 22-26; Princess Camp (ages 3-7), July 6-17; Next Stop Broadway (ages 8-13), July 27-31; Girls Only Week (ages 6-10). Young Explorer Day Camps at The Falls of the Ohio – June 1 – 5, June 8 – 12, June 22 – 26, June 29 – July 3, July 13 – 17, July 21 – 24, and July 27 – 31. Call 812-283-4999 for more information. Cost is $80 per child for five-day session and $60 per child for four-day session. Students explore the different outside habitats found at the Falls of the Ohio State Park, as well as the exhibits inside the Interpretive Center. Students learn about science and history, including fossils, nature, native people, plants, aquatic life, and more through hands-on education activities. Camp sessions are four days ($60), or five days ($80). In June, grades 4-6 attend in the mornings from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and grades 1-3 attend in the afternoons from 1:00-4:00 p.m. In July, grades 1-3 attend in the mornings from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and grades 4-6 attend in the afternoons from 1:00 P.M – 4:00 P.M..Young Paleontologist Camp: July 6-8, (Monday – Wednesday) from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (8:30 to 3:30 if high temperature exceeds 90 degrees); Fee is $80. This camp is for students ages 9-14 who will examine the life and live the life of a paleontologist. Students will discover how paleontologists learn about the history of life on Earth by studying fossils (the remains or traces of organisms such as plants and animals that lived in the past).
